WOMEN IN TECH
Explore the Women in Tech Forum
In the spirit of women’s month BCX hosted a Women in Tech forum at the Houghton Hotel in Johannesburg in August. The room was full of vibrant and talented professional women from different sectors and industries. The forum looked at how women can prepare for the ever-changing technology landscape and devise concrete ways to strengthen the female pipeline for the industry to ensure that women help drive the 4th Industrial Revolution.
The day was full of discussions and networking, allowing women to share their stories, challenges, and strategies to cope with day-to-day corporate life.
The aim of the event was to foster mentor/mentee relations in the technology sector. The unemployment rate for women in South Africa is staggering, and the technology sector is no different with only 23% of tech jobs held by women.
To ensure this trend does not continue to affect the next cohort of young South African girls, we support WeThinkCode_, a non-profit organisation that aims to unlock youth potential by closing the digital skills gap in Africa.
We truly believing in empowering women especially in the technology sector. Closing the gender gap is not only important for the empowerment of women, but also for businesses, communities, South Africa, and the world. Statistics shows sizable economic benefits and GDP growth when industries come together to combat the gender parity that exist in industry today.
In commemoration of Women’s Month, we urge you to play your part and support a girl child. Let’s grow South African youth together. When you empower a woman, you empower a Nation.
